Wednesday, March 30th is National Doctors’ Day and we wanted to take a minute to shout out our amazing New Hope Physicians!
They work hard daily to help all of our past and present patients achieve their fertility goals. This team of physicians understands how hard infertility can be for individuals and couples, and has spent the last 3 decades combined, providing quality care for all who need it.
So without further ado, meet our physician team!
John Zhang, MD, MSc, Ph.D. – Medical Director, Founder
Doctor Zhang is the Founder of New Hope Fertility Center and has served as our Medical Director since its opening in 2004! Since then he has overseen New Hope expansions internationally to China, Russia, and Mexico.
Doctor Zhang is a true pioneer in the area of minimally invasive (Natural Cycle and Mini-IVF™) fertility care and an active researcher and medical technology developer. He has received several notable achievements in the area of assisted reproductive technology (ART), including the birth of a child by a 49-year-old using her own eggs and being named one of New York’s Top Doctors.
On any given day, you can expect to see Doctor Zhang around the office interacting with patients and staff, giving his expert advice and opinions!
Jennifer Kulp-Makarov, MD, FACOG
Doctor Makarov is a board-certified OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinologist. She has many years of experience treating women and couples with infertility. Doctor Makarov has a special interest in helping couples conceive using both basic and advanced reproductive technologies. She is New Hope’s dedicated fertility preservation and egg freezing specialist, in addition to working closely with the LGBT community to help same-sex couples and single women to conceive.
She can be found on Instagram and TikTok as @drjenn_fertilityfriend and loves answering your social media questions and even breaking out the occasional dance move!
Zitao Liu, MD, PhD, FACOG
Doctor Liu is a world-renowned fertility doctor with a deep understanding of the field of Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART). His focus is on the development and implementation of individualized patient protocols in order to maximize a patient’s chance of conception. He has received many teaching awards from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the Tufts University School of Medicine, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Years of clinical practice and academic research have shown Doctor Liu the limitations of conventional IVF. He is not only a strong advocate of minimal stimulation IVF protocols (Natural IVF and Mini-IVF™) for indicated patients but is an accomplished surgeon for minimally invasive procedures as well!
In his free time, you can find him running the New York Marathon!
Khaled Zeitoun, MD
Doctor Zeitoun is a board-certified OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (REI) specialist. With over 30 years of experience in the field, Dr. Zeitoun is one of the few Reproductive Endocrinologists with expertise in major gynecologic surgery. Using minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Zeitoun specializes in surgical procedures that increase the likelihood of pregnancy, including fibroid removal, operative hysteroscopy, tubal surgery, tubal reversal, and procedures for endometriosis.
Doctor Zeitoun is also internationally recognized for his unique experience in creating fertility protocols that fit the specific religious and cultural needs of patients and their families. As a native Arabic speaker, his patients travel from countries around the world seeking his expert care!
Doctor Zeitoun is our resident “late-night” clinic doctor, so catch him on Wednesdays anytime before 7 PM!
Zhuo Lu, Ph.D. Lab Manager, Senior Embryologist
Doctor Lu currently holds the position of Senior Embryologist at New Hope Fertility Center. He has over 10 years of experience with micromanipulation and insemination techniques with highly successful fertilization and blastocyst rates. He has published over a dozen scientific papers including a seminal investigation published in Nature in which he personally produced the first viable iPS mouse through tetraploid complementation that proved iPS cells have the same developmental potential as ES cells. This study was reported by dozens of media outlets and was hailed by Time Magazine as one of the top 10 medical breakthroughs of 2009.

Hui Liu, Ph.D. Chief Scientist
Doctor Hui Liu is an internationally recognized Reproductive Scientist and Embryologist. He serves as the Chief Scientist and Senior Embryologist to New Hope Fertility, contributing significantly to the development of human nuclear transfer techniques including germinal vesicle (GV) transfer, metaphase II (MII) spindle transfer, and pronuclear transfer.
As a Senior Embryologist at New Hope Fertility Center, he has introduced multiple techniques in routine IVF practice, including a spindle view to evaluate oocyte maturity and quality, laser-assisted ICSI to enhance the chance of normal fertilization, assisted activation to rescue incompetent oocytes, and more.
